ISF MIBG Ambassador: Tim McBride

We are excited to announce our very first committed ISF MIBG Ambassador, Tim McBride. The ISF MIBG Ambassador is a new program we have rolled out where each ambassador commits to raising $5,000 through his/her own network. We couldn’t think of the most perfect person to help us kick this program off. Tim fundraises 365 days a year for a variety of foundations and types of cancers, all while leveraging what he knows and loves best: running, bringing joy to kids at Christmas as Santa McBeast, and making whatever impact he can in ALL that he does.

Tim just retired. So we have to make sure he stays busy! And we love that he doesn’t take no for an answer as he fights to crush cancer every single day.

Funds raised through this program will be distributed very specifically through our partnership with Levine Children’s Hospital with a very targeted purpose. So get creative and fundraise the way you want to.

We hope you will join us at our MIBG Ambassador KICK OFF meeting on May 22 at 6:30 at the Santos Home.  Drinks and light appetizers will be available.  Please R.S.V.P. by Sunday, May 20th.  If you cannot attend and would like information, please contact tia@isabellasantosfoundation.org for details.
You do not have to be in Charlotte to participate!  Email Tia for more information.

A New Way to Make an Impact: Isabella Santos Ambassador Program

Take your support of the Isabella Santos Foundation to the next level
 X
As the Isabella Santos Foundation MIBG treatment suite at Levine Children’s Hospital goes under construction, we want to ensure that we help plan for the kids and their families who will have to walk through its door for cancer treatment.  We have developed the Isabella Santos MIBG Ambassador Program, a new way of fundraising and making an impact.  As an Isabella Santos MIBG Ambassador, you agree to help raise $5,000 to provide a comfortable and customized experience for all families and children who undergo MIBG therapy at Levine Children’s Hospital.  This program gives you the opportunity to leverage your network and raise funds the way you want to raise them.  100% of your donation will go to help support patients and families by helping provide items and experiences that we will detail during our upcoming MIBG Ambassador kick off meeting.

Charlotte Community Comes Together to Bring $141,141 IMPACT for Pediatric Cancer

WHAT LEGACY WILL YOU LEAVE?  WHAT IMPACT WILL YOU MAKE? HOW WILL YOU INSPIRE CHANGE?

Our 3rd Annual Coffee for a Cure Events last month were all about creating hope.  Hope for more pediatric cancer options.  Hope for new research.  Hope for families and children fighting this ugly disease.  Over two mornings, we talked about IMPACT, INSPIRATION and LEGACY and how we all can do our part to make things happen.  We are very excited to announce that we raised $141,141 over the course of the two mornings with donations still coming in!

The second week of April was a BIG week for the foundation!  Coffee for a Cure came directly on the heels of announcing our $5 million commitment to Levine Children’s Hospital to establish The Isabella Santos Foundation Rare & Solid Tumor Program at Levine Children’s Hospital.  This program will impact more than just Charlotte as it will be the first of its kind in the United States.  With this $5 million 5-year initiative, we hope to change lives.  We will be the foundation of something special and will have the best pediatric cancer program, right here is Charlotte.  It will take years of fundraising and years of building… but we hope you will join us in this important mission.

Ten years have passed, and we have seen lots of changes in the Isabella Santos Foundation and we are excited for what the future will bring.  The momentum is strong, the focus is broadening, and the mission to help is growing.  Three extremely proud accomplishments include:  1). Over $1 Million raised in 2017  2).  MIBG Suite is in process and to be unveiled Dec 2018 3). Isabella Santos Foundation has DONATED over $2.5 Million to date.  And we could never have made those accomplishments without every single donor, supporter, volunteer or team member.

We also couldn’t have accomplished such milestones without community leaders advocating for pediatric cancer and our foundation.  We are very proud to have some of the best community leaders on our side.  Joining us for another year as our event emcee, Molly Grantham of WBTV has been with us since the beginning and continues to support our foundation’s mission at every turn (and lately there has been a lot of them).  We thank Molly for her constant support and the IMPACT she is making and INSPIRATION she is creating through her #MollysKids work.

During our annual Coffee for a Cure events we look forward to recognizing individuals in our community with the 6th Annual Isabella Santos Award.  Congratulations to Tim McBride, Tom Patania, and Christie Keagy.  Each one of these individuals has made a difference to those around them and continue to do so. They are out to make an impact and inspire change. And we love that they impact and inspire in their own way.  We thank them for the kind individuals they are, the admirable characteristics they embody and all that they have done for the fight against childhood cancer.

To everyone who supports us…we cannot begin to put into words to how grateful that we are for the impact you are helping us make. We are so proud of what we have accomplished together and it is because of YOU.  We hope you will continue to join us.  We are fortunate to live a community that stands behind us.  Thank you to the following businesses who support our mission of fighting childhood cancer and helped us make the 2018 Coffee for a Cure Events possible.

6th Annual Isabella Santos Award

Don’t ever underestimate the impact that you may have on someone else’s life.

Last week during our Coffee for a Cure events, we recognized three individuals with the 6th Annual Isabella Santos Award.  Each award recipient below has made a difference to those around them and continue to do so. They are out to make an impact and inspire change. And we love that they impact and inspire in their own way.  We thank them for the kind individuals they are, the admirable characteristics they embody and all that they have done for the fight against childhood cancer.

Tom Patania & Tim McBride, Isabella Santos Award Recipients with last year’s recipient Jackson Lowry (middle)

TIM MCBRIDE (McBeast)

If you have ever attended a run in Charlotte, you know him.  His famous beard and part-time Christmas job may have you know his face, but if that’s all you know – you are missing out.  Tim McBride lost both of his parents to cancer and his story is amazing.  2 years ago he said he was going to run 50 miles in honor of losing his dad 50 years ago.  I came out and joined him on his run for about 11 miles and listened to him tell me his life story and how Cancer Messed With the Wrong Kid by taking both of his parents.  He runs for every type of cancer cause and is constantly fundraising.  He runs every single day – and as of today has run 2,324 days in a row – never stopping one single day.  He is one of our top foundation supporters and is our most loved Dream Team member for sure.

TOM PATANIA

We never would have met Tim, had there not been a Tom.  Tom Patania, our beloved Dream Team marathon coach graciously stepped forward 5 years ago with an idea of training a few people to run a half-marathon for ISF.  All in the name of his mom who lost her own battle to cancer.  5 years later, hundreds of runners and over $400,000 later – his impact became 10 fold.  Tom was up before the sun, organizing runs, water stops, cheerleading and motivating a team of grumpy early morning runners.  His positivity and optimizim was infectious.  He helped make runners and walker’s dreams a reality and in the same time – made a huge impact in the world of pediatric cancer.

Christie Keagy & Erin Santos, Isabella Santos Award

CHRISTIE KEAGY

Impact comes in many different forms.  Not only has Christie made a personal impact on Isabella and her family, she continues to volunteer for our organization by serving on the Auction Committee and volunteering for events throughout the year.  Christie is always available when we need a last minute volunteer to make something happen and she constantly spreads the word about our fight against childhood cancer.

“I realized the last couple of months of Isabella’s life we never heard her kids play outside ever.  She kept her children inside, so that I didn’t have to hear other little girls play outside.”  -Erin Santos
