Levine Children’s, One of 10 hospitals to Have a Ryan Seacrest Foundation Studio

Our buddy Madison had a checkup and magnetic therapy on her leg that was treated for osteosarcoma on March 29th. First appointment since ringing the bell end of February. Madison’s femur has started growing on it’s own! Although she still cannot walk unassisted and still uses a walker or wheelchair, there is evidence that her femur is attaching itself to the cadaver bone. How amazing is that?

Naturally, Madison headed down to Levine Children’s Seacrest Studios right after. The Studio’s director, Meredith, already had some fun scheduled with Frutta Bowls Charlotte. Madison got busy making delicious açaí treats for all of us while we were entertained by Frutta’s Chef Nick and his loud Brooklyn accent! Such a fun afternoon, dancing (specifically to Moana) and tons of hugs and giggles.

Levine’s is one of 10 hospitals to have a Ryan Seacrest Foundation Studio in the U.S. It’s that happy place for patients. That place patients can go and forget why they are in the hospital. And if patients can’t get down to the studio, everything is broadcasted through a closed circuit network direct to patient rooms. Patients can call down song requests or in yesterday’s case, Frutta Bowl requests! What an incredible outlet this program provides for patients!

Meredith Dean and Levine Children’s Seacrest Studios team is one of the things that sets LCH apart from other hospitals! Meredith is so passionate about these kids fighting and shows up at work every single day with the goal of putting a smile on their faces. Love what she does for the hospital, for the kids and their families!

Madison was diagnosed with osteosarcoma, a type of pediatric cancer one year ago in April. This brave girl has come such a long way in a very short period of time. If you missed her story, you can see her video and read it here.

Erin Santos honored with America’s Blood Center’s “Larry Frederick Award”

We attended America’s Blood Centers (ABC) ceremony on March 25th in Arlington. Erin, our Executive Director, received the “ABC Larry Frederick Award” for her dedication and leadership in raising awareness of the need for blood donation.

The award is named after Larry Frederick, a former Oakland, Calif. police officer who was struck by a DUI driver in 1982 and received 110 units of blood and nine major surgeries to repair extensive injuries. He has made it his personal mission to thank blood donors and help raise awareness of the need for blood through a nationwide blood drive called Life Across America. ABC created this award to honor the work of Larry and all the others who support its mission.

We couldn’t think of a more fitting award for Erin to receive. She, like Larry, has taken an unimaginable tragedy, made the decision to not let it define her and turned it into a difference maker for others. Thank you ABC for honoring Erin and hosting us for an incredibly inspirational evening in Arlington. And thank you to Martin Grable, CEO of Community Blood Center of the Carolinas, and his team for the nomination!

Camp Care 5K, April 20th

The 25th annual Camp CARE 5K is in a month…April 20th, 2019! This year the 5K falls on Easter weekend, a perfect activity for the family! Proceeds from this event send kids fighting cancer and their siblings to summer camp!

Star Wars is this year’s camp summer theme, so strap on your bunny ears and charge up your lightsabers for the 5K, lunch, Easter egg hunt, face painting and more!

Providence Plastic Surgery Raises $4,200 for Isabella Santos Foundation

In February, Providence Plastic Surgery & Skin Center hosted a Botox Charity Event to benefit rare pediatric cancer.  Customers took advantage of “buy now, use later” Botox at a reduced price of $10 per unit, where $5 per unit benefited ISF.  In February, over $4200 was raised for ISF! Incredible!

Thank you to Providence Plastic Surgery for fundraising for pediatric cancer and thank you to all of you who participated in helping make this fundraiser a sucess to impact kids fighting cancer.

Such a great example how local businesses can get involved with giving back to the community. Host a give back day/week/month, donate a percentage of sales to the foundation and feel good about making a difference. Customers are more likely to buy and engage with businesses that show their commitment to their local community. But get creative, we are up to hearing any idea you have to stand apart!
