Isabella Santos Foundation’s Impact Extends Beyond North Carolina

Written by Rachel Wood, Director of Marketing

The Isabella Santos Foundation team hit the road and headed to Ohio for Golf for Cure at Jefferson County Club Presented by Y-mAbs Therapeutics. Being from Ohio and having her grassroots there, ISF Executive Director, Erin, makes it a point to give back to where she is from. Where Isabella’s family is from.  On Monday, May 2nd Isabella’s legacy helped us extend beyond North Carolina. Due to the success of the event, we will be donating $20,000 to Nationwide Children’s Hospital to help support a Ewings Sarcoma pediatric cancer trial.

Erin Santos & Isabella’s 3 Grandfathers

We couldn’t have asked for better weather or company!  22 foursomes brought 88 players out for kids fighting cancer.  There were several special details from the day that prove just how important community and family are:

Isabella’s Family:  We were surrounded by so many of Isabella’s family:  3 Grandfathers, 2 Grandmothers, Aunts, Uncles, and distant relatives! Some golfed and others volunteered. Special thanks to one of Isabella’s Grandfathers, Bob Stewart, for helping us coordinate the event at Jefferson Country Club.

Hole #15: This hole was sponsored in memory of a member of Erin’s family, Jami Raubenolt.  Honoring and celebrating a beautiful life while supporting Isabella’s legacy at the same time. To add to the good vibes, Jami’s sons, Grant and Carter, won the longest yard and putting contests!

“We have been members at Jefferson Country Club for over a decade and I would like to sponsor hole #15 as that holds a special memory for my boys and me.  My wife Jami got a hole-in-one on #15 years ago as the four of us played there as a family; my two sons are decent golfers.  Sadly, she passed away last February from brain cancer.  So instead of marketing my business; I wanted to support her local charity where she worked with the yard sign and honor my wife with the flag.” -Kevin Raubenolt, Jami’s Husband

Cancer Survivor Aria:  We met and heard from Ewings Sarcoma Survivor, Aria, who talked to our golfers about her story and the importance of their impact. After 10 months of treatment, Aria is currently cancer-free.

Team Adam

Cancer Survivor Adam: Ewings Sarcoma Survivor, Adam, and his mom traveled to Ohio from Charlotte to volunteer at the event and share Adam’s story.  Adam and Kristin are from Ohio and their family moved to North Carolina several years ago.  Adam is being treated at Levine Children’s under the Isabella Santos Foundation Rare & Solid Tumor Program.  We loved that they made a mother/son trip out of it to see friends and family and joined us for such a special day!

Our presenting sponsor, Y-mAbs Therapeutics, is a commercial-stage clinical biopharmaceutical company focused on the development and commercialization of novel antibody-based cancer treatments.  Their mission is to become the world leader in developing antibody-based cancer products that address clear unmet needs in pediatric oncology.  We are thrilled that they will be in North Carolina in late June as the presenting sponsor for our Golf for a Cure in Charlotte on June 27th!

Special thank you to all volunteers, event, and hole sponsors, and most importantly… thank you to Isabella’s family for opening their arms, hearts, and homes to the ISF team!  We couldn’t have pulled off the event without you all!

Interested to learn more about our Charlotte golf tournament at Firethorne Country Club on June 27th, please reach out to Karen Murphy (Director of Sponsorships & Partnerships).  She is always up for a NoDa beer or cup of coffee to share what ISF is all about and how to support pediatric cancer in our community.

Thank you to our event sponsors!
