Join forces with OneBlood and Isabella Santos Foundation to Save Lives this Summer

Written by ISF Sustaining Sponsor, OneBlood

OneBlood and the Isabella Santos Foundation are teaming up again this summer to save lives and celebrate the memory of Isabella Santos. Isabella passed away on June 28, 2012, after a five-year battle with neuroblastoma, a rare type of pediatric cancer. This year will make ten years since our warrior, Isabella, passed away.

During Isabella’s treatment, she received several blood and platelet transfusions. Blood and platelet donations are critical in the fight against cancer. Many Pediatric Cancer treatments are aggressive and require patients to receive many blood or platelet transfusions to help with recovery.

Calling All Heroes! Join the fight against childhood cancer!

It’s very simple. Come join us at and donate platelets or blood June 25 – June 28 at the Charlotte Donor Center or the Isabella Santos Donor Center and share your power!

OneBlood is celebrating our donors this year through the Hero In You In challenge. Each donor will have their own unique challenge to earn Superhero Challenge Rewards. The more you give the more you earn. For every confirmed donation, OneBlood will donate $20 back to ISF and donors will receive a OneBlood T-Shirt.

Donations help the Isabella Santos Foundation invest in pediatric cancer research, improve pediatric cancer trials and studies, and support families affected by cancer. Ultimately, allowing Isabella’s three wishes to come true: BEAT Cancer, GROW Hair, and LIVE Her Dreams.

About Platelet Donations:

  • You can donate platelets every 7 days and can give up to 24 times a year. If you have donated whole blood, you must wait at least 2 days before you can donate platelets.
  • Platelet donations are done using a process called automation (sometimes referred to as apheresis). Automation allows us to collect specific components of your blood at a larger volume.
  • One automated platelet donation produces one or more complete platelet doses for a patient. It would take six to eight whole blood donors pooled together to produce one complete platelet dose.
